Allianz Workshop on Microinsurances
Objective
Allianz SE invited 26 students to Munich to get to know the company’s activities in the area of microfinance. The event was organized by the HR department as part of its marketing.
Programme
In the plenary session at the beginning, Michael Anthony, head of the microinsurance programme, provided the audience with an overview of Allianz’ business development activities among low-income segments in India, Indonesia and a number of countries in Africa. Martin Hinz concretized the challenges of building a microinsurance programme with the example of Indonesia, where he had led the development of a life insurance scheme.
In the afternoon, students split up into two workshop groups. In the workshop on business model development, participants used the Challenge Matrix to identify constraints to implementing and scaling up insurance services for low-income consumers in India and come up with solutions. Christina Gradl - director at the Emergia Institute - moderated the discussion and Raphaela Cochet - from Allianz’ microinsurance programme - provided more insights into the actual business model.
In the second workshop, students developed ideas for effective market research approaches among the low-income target group in Indonesia. Aline Krämer, director at the Emergia Institute, briefly explained the challenges of doing market research among this target group and highlighted some innovative approaches. Martin Hinz illustrated her explanations with examples from his experience in Indonesia.
