Towards Triple Impact
Background
Planning for triple impact requires a systemic perspective. Without such a comprehensive view, impacts are easily just shifted around in the value chain or between stakeholder groups. Strategic planning tools to support the development of businesses with a triple bottom line are often too complex for small and medium sized companies to use. The training offers three intuitive tools that help to keep the triple impact on target.
Content
The Inclusive Business Matrix Challenge is a workshop of 1 to 3 days. Entrepreneurs and business development professionals from the private and public sector apply strategic planning tools to systematically develop businesses that benefit the company, the environment and society, especially people in poverty. The tools apply a systemic perspective to three key strategic taks:
- Identifying opportunities
- Understanding the determinants of success
- Assessing costs and benefits
Setup
Workshops are scheduled on request and are typically conducted at the company site. A pre-training assessment (interview or survey) is required to adjust the training to participants' needs.
Experiences
Public sector representatives and entrepreneurs practiced the tools in 3 two day workshops in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in October 2009. The training was offered by UNEP in collaboration with national governments.
