3rd Expert Dialogue "The role of Governance for Inclusive Business"
Guided by inputs from academics and role plays based on company examples, 25 experts from the development, business and academic domain discussed how rules could enable inclusive business models. One key insight was that rule setting processes need to take account of existing formal and informal institutions to be effective. Discussions also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the ultimate target group - low-income communities - have a voice in the rule setting process. >
Study trip to the townships of South Africa
Five Danish companies visited the townships of Johannesburg to meet local businesses and community members and scout for inclusive business opportunities. The study trip was organized by the Confederation of Danish Industry in collaboration with FABCOS, a Johannesburg-based business association servicing primarily micro and small enterprises from townships. The trip took place from March 1 – 5, 2010. As a first of its kind, it was evaluated a great success by participants. >
Launch Publication "Entwicklungsgeschäfte"
We launched our first own publication "Entwicklungsgeschäfte" on November 3, 2009 at the GTZ Haus in Berlin. This German primer on inclusive business explains how business and human development can be achieved together through innovative business models, introduces best practices for the development of such models and highlights promising sectors and countries.
The launch was hosted by BMZ, DIHK, GTZ and DIHK. Representatives from companies and intermediary organizations talked about their own experiences with developing "Entwicklungsgeschäfte" in three brief discussion rounds. The following reception provided opportunities for networking. >
Past Inclusive Business Brown Bag Lunches
For the kick off of the Berlin Inclusive Business Brown Bag series on September 11 2009, MicroEnergy International invited experts to their office at TU Berlin to discuess the challenges of the energy sector when serving low-income markets. The second Brown Bag Lunch on December 11 2009 hosted by PlaNet Finance to talk about "Micro-Finance as Social Investment". The third lunch of the series was co-organized with MicroEnergy International hosted by GTZ to discuss the management of Public Private Partnerships (PPP). The fourth event of this kind discussed "How can we learn from others?". Together with our partner Nick Tewes, Corporate Affairs Vice President at Allianz, we shared some insights on the matter from our recent documentation project "Learning to insure the poor" to quick off a vivid exchange.>
2nd Expert Dialogue "BOP - aber wie?"
31 experts fom business, development organizations and academia came together in Lutherstadt on July 9 and 10 2009 to jointly identify challenges and solutions for the development of inclusive business models. The second dialogue of this kind focussed on innovation processes that involve non-traditional partners, in particular employees, development organizations and the poor themselves >
Allianz Workshop Microinsurance
On November 21 2008, 26 talented students and young professionals learnt about Allianz SE’s initiatives to provide insurance to poor people in Indonesia, India and a number of countries in Africa. Experts from the Emergia Institute moderated the interactive working sessions, applying the institute’s frameworks for effective market research and business model development. >
1st Expert Dialogue “Growing Inclusive Markets”
In June 2008, German experts from business, development and academia gathered in Wittenberg (Germany) to discuss the potential of innovative business models to alleviate poverty in developing countries. It was the first expert meeting on this topic in Germany. >

BoP Learning Lab Global Network Director's Summit
